Koi Herpes Virus Surveillance

Declaration of Ireland's Disease Free Status for Koi Herpes Virus

A targeted two-year Surveillance Programme for Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) was implemented under European Commission Decision 2010/171/EC (pdf).

This Surveillance Programme was jointly operated between the Marine Institute and Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) and was completed in 2013.

Ireland has now been declared to be free from KHV thereby attaining the highest health status in Europe with respect to this disease (Category I status as defined in the Fish Health Directive 2006/88/EC).

The Commission Decision declaring Ireland's disease-free status for KHV is available to download here (pdf).
