New arrangements now apply concerning the transit of certain aquaculture animals (M. edulis, M. gigas and R. philippinarum) and M. gigas of wild origin through Great Britain, en-route to an EU Member State for re-immersion.
THESE ARRANGEMENTS WILL APPLY UNTIL 31ST MARCH 2025
Procedure:
- Operators must submit an application to export Blue Mussels (M. edulis), Pacific Oysters (M. gigas) or Clams (R. philippinarum) of aquaculture origin, or Pacific Oysters (M. gigas) of wild origin to the Marine Institute (MI) at least 3 days prior to a consignment's departure.
- Applications can be submitted via the online movement application portal.
In the 'Transport' section of the application, please ensure that you identify the application as ‘TRANSIT’ and include the EU entry and exit points in the text box provided (box labelled 'UNN').
Contact notification@marine.ie if you require login credentials.
- The operator/transporter/agent must ensure that a hard-copy of the Intra-Trade Notification travels with the consignment during its transit through Great Britain.
- Additional requirements apply to transporters/agents. Please contact notification@marine.ie for further information
It is very important to note that trucks may be stopped by UK officials during the transit journey, so it is imperative that all of the steps outlined above are strictly adhered to.
Important Notes:
- Live O. edulis intended for re-immersion in a Member State of the EU are not permitted to transit through GB
- Live O. edulis placed on the market for human consumption without further processing, are permitted to transit through GB, provided they are packed in retail-sale packages which comply with the provisions for such packages in Regulation (EC) No 853/2004.
- The Marine Institute - Fish Health Unit office operates 09:00 to 5:30pm Monday to Friday
- Intra-Trade notification is not required for live bi-valve molluscs which leave Ireland packaged and labelled for human consumption in compliance with Regulation (EC) No 853/2008.
