1. Obligations of Transporters of Aquatic Animals
Obligations of transporters of aquatic animals concerning record keeping, biosecurity measures, water exchanges and labelling are set out in Article 188 of Regulation (EU) 2016/429 and in Articles 3, 4 and 5 of Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2020/990.
2. Who Should Apply for Wellboat Registration?
In order for the Competent Authority to carry out official controls on transporters to ensure their compliance with Article 2(1)(a) of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 (Official Controls Regulation (OCR)), and specifically with the Regulations referred to in the paragraph above, those transporters must be registered in accordance with Article 10 (2) of the OCR. The obligation to be registered applies to operators of wellboats that transport aquaculture animals.
3. How and When to Apply for Wellboat Registration
Please download and complete the application form C-15 and submit to notification@marine.ie.
The application for wellboat registration should be made at least five working days in advance of the date on which the vessel is expected to arrive in Ireland.
4. Marine Institute Notification Requirements
The Marine Institute require at least three working days notice before a vessel, which has been registered in accordance with Section 3 above, re-enters the country.
This notification period is necessary as the Marine Institute must schedule a veterinary inspection of the vessel before it begins work at an aquaculture establishment in Ireland.
