The arrangements which apply concerning the transit of Live Bivalve Molluscs through Great Britain, intended for re-immersion in an EU Member State from 01 April 2025, are as follows:
Procedure:
- Operators whose consignments of LBM will transit through GB intended for re-immersion in an EU Member State before human consumption, must submit an application to the Marine Institute (MI) at least 3 days prior to departure of the consignment.
- Applications can be submitted via the online movement application portal.
In the 'Transport' section of the application, please ensure that you identify the application as ‘TRANSIT’ and include the EU entry and exit points in the text box provided (box labelled 'UNN').

- Additional requirements apply to transporters/agents concerning the facilitation of pre-export inspections and animal health certification, prior to transit. Transporters/agents must also notify GB authorities by email when transit consignments have exited GB territory. Please contact notification@marine.ie for further details of relevant requirements.
Please note that trucks may be stopped by UK officials during the transit journey. It is therefore, imperative that all of the steps outlined above are strictly adhered to.

Important Additional Notes:
- Live O. edulis intended for re-immersion in a Member State of the EU are not permitted to transit through GB, other than if they originate from a Bonamia exitiosa free zone (i.e. Tralee Bay)
- LBM (including O. edulis) which are placed on the market for human consumption without further processing, are permitted to transit through GB, provided they are packed in retail-sale packages which comply with the provisions for such packages in Regulation (EC) No 853/2004.
- Intra-Trade notification is not required for live bi-valve molluscs which leave Ireland packaged and labelled for human consumption in compliance with Regulation (EC) No 853/2008.
